I enrolled on the The Polished Professional™ course in order to gain a better understanding of how to integrate with my peers. I was already a senior manager at the time and was adept at dealing with my team, but was failing when meeting my peers and seniors. When interacting with my more senior colleagues I knew I was making mistakes, but I couldn’t yet tell what they were. I recognised that this was damaging my own personal brand and limiting my professional effectiveness, and understood that I needed to take action fast.

On completion of the course, I diligently put into practice the principles I was taught, even those I thought would be ineffective. Ironically, the techniques I would ordinarily have dismissed were actually the first to yield results and after just two weeks I began to feel the difference, I was substantially more confident and self-assured. I began taking charge and leading interactions that I usually would have shied away from. Every interaction was a success, and with each success my confidence grew, creating a positive feedback loop where I became more effective and was able to utilise more of the principles taught in the course. The stress that I had previously felt in the role simply melted away and I have not felt any stress since.

I became involved in a customer engagement project at work, which sought to improve the satisfaction in our services. I joined the project when our depot was the lowest rated of all seven depots, because there had been no engagement with the project prior to my joining.  My department was taking the lion’s share of the blame for our being bottom of the pile. I met with our (dissatisfied) customers and applied the simple techniques taught on the course. I was polite and courteous, I showed interest in their operation and empathised with their challenges. I changed nothing in the day-to-day operation. After three months we had gone from last place to first and we stayed in either first place or joint first place for every month thereafter until the day I left.

The benefits of the course were not just evident in my professional life, they transformed my social life as well. A few months ago, we hosted a birthday party for our daughter where we met many of her friends’ parents for the first time. Again, applying the principles I learned in The Polished Professional™, we engaged with the parents and children alike, hosting an exceptional birthday party that even now, 6 months later and after countless other parties, they all still comment on and remember fondly.

Once I felt my role with the company had come to its natural conclusion, I put myself on the market for a new role. At the time my salary was at the top end of the national salary range but despite this, using the techniques I had learned in The Polished Professional™, I was offered and accepted a new position which came with a 37% increase in overall pay.

It has been a little over a year since I enrolled on the Polished Professional. Since that time my financial return on investment is over 16,500%. If this course was a stock, then it would be on the front page of every newspaper.

More than just the money, I feel almost like a new person. Like I have evolved into a better version of myself, I am more confident, more self-assured and more outgoing. I am no longer afraid of meeting with customers, I am not afraid of hosting business meetings or parties and I have not felt an ounce of stress in the last 12 months.
